Today's Savior, tomorrow's Judge!
Christmas - it’s an annual festival celebrated by people around the world. A Worldwide Celebration. Yes, it is a day to remember the birth of the Savior of the world, who was born to bear the sins of the world. The birth of Christ is the fulfillment of prophecies uttered by many prophets at various times. Indeed, the birth of Christ was foretold centuries ago. Let us examine some prophecies about Christ in the Bible and their fulfillment.
The Birth of Christ
Isaiah the prophet foretold the birth of Christ, saying, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).” Moreover, Micah the prophet foretold that Christ would be born in Bethlehem. “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting (Micah 5:2).” As foretold, Christ was born in Bethlehem to the virgin Mary.
The Ministry of Christ
As Isaiah further prophesied (in Isaiah chapter 9), Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people. “The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined (Isaiah 9:2).”
The Death of Christ
“Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:4,5).” As Isaiah prophesied, Jesus was scourged, crowned with thorns, and crucified, to purify the people of the earth by his own blood. He cried out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit,” and breathed his last.
The Resurrection of Christ
“For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth (Job 19:25).” “For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption (Psalm 16:10).” Fulfilling the scriptures, Christ rose from the dead, appeared to his disciples, and was taken up into heaven while His disciples watched. In this way, the prophecies uttered by the prophets pertaining to Christ were all fulfilled.
Prophecy Yet to Be Fulfilled
“He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth (Psalm 96:13).” “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen (Revelation 1:7).” Jesus Christ, who came to the earth as its Savior, will soon return as its Judge. Just as the prophecies about Christ's first coming were fulfilled, so too will the prophecies about his second coming be fulfilled in due time. “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work (Revelation 22:12).” Amen, come, Lord Jesus. Let us be prepared to meet Christ and receive eternal life!
