Why "study" the Bible?

The most common question, with regards to a Bible study would be this. Why do we have to "study" the bible? Don't people just "read" the Bible?

True, we do "read" the Bible, but "studying" or "meditating", as in devoting time and special attention to what the says, does have its own merits. The Bible itself calls ones who meditate the word of God as blessed.

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2)

Also, the word of God provides clarity to life and illuminates our journey on Earth.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105)

And, on top of these, the word of God also provides meaning and gives answers to questions on life.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

All these are sufficient reasons to study the Bible. Now, is there any reason to do it as a group? Yes! Plenty of reasons! But suffice to say, like a lot of things, studying and discussing the word of God, with a group one is comfortable with, encourages more of reading and studying on an individual level as well!

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! (Psalm 133:1)

So, if possible, do gather as friends and try it out! And maybe you can follow along with this blog as well!

See you in the next post! Take care of yourself and each other!

  1. "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them
    Matthew 18:20."
    Also because of this reason?!
